The Department of Economic Development manages the City's revenue-generating properties:

• The Easton's Beach and the Easton's Beach Rotunda Ballroom
• The Mary Street Parking Lot, Gateway Visitor's Center & Garage
• The City's The City's Harbor Facilities
• Permits for Permits for Movie, Television and Photography Productions
• King Park Auto & Trailer Parking, Boat Launch, Permit Information

The Department is the City's liaison to the local business community and is an advocate for programs and projects enhancing Newport's value as a heritage tourism destination.

Jonathan Stevens is Newport’s director of economic development, and is responsible for managing the City’s revenue-producing properties and programs. Mr. Stevens, former legislative director to US Senator Lincoln Chafee, and former planning director for the City of Warwick, holds a Master's Degree in Community Planning from the University of Rhode Island.
