Clean City Program

The Newport Department of Public Services' Clean City Program provides services for the curbside collection of residential refuse, yard waste and recycling, litter management for areas with heavy pedestrian traffic, and graffiti mitigation.

The Clean City Program has posted the 2010 Clean City Program Solid Waste & Recycling Calendar.

The City, through a contract with Waste Management Inc., provides weekly curbside collection of household waste, bulky waste and recycling. Yard waste is collected for four consecutive weeks in April and November, every other week through the spring and summer months and the first full week of each of the winter months.

The Clean City Program maintains approximately 250 litter barrels in the downtown business area and in the citys parks. Litter collection is provided by seasonal employees operating mechanical sidewalk sweepers.

  • 7/1/09 - THE CLEAN CITY PROGRAM OFFICE HAS MOVED!

If you have been to the Clean City Program office before, the new office is only one building over from its previous location.

The Clean City Program is located in the rear entrance of the Department of Public Services garage, 80 Halsey St. in the City Yard. The entrance to Halsey Street is located off of Admiral Kalbfus Road between Newport Grand Slots and the traffic circle.

The City Yard/North Halsey Street is not accessible from Van Zandt Avenue, as there is a blockade that does not allow you to drive to the City Yard.

Please be mindful that most GPS systems and Mapquest will not give you proper directions and will send you the incorrect way through the Van Zandt Ave. neighborhood. However, Google maps will send you the correct way.

Directions to the Clean City Program Office, 80 Halsey Street:

From Admiral Kalbfus Road, turn onto North Halsey Street, where there is a sign saying "Waste Management, City of Newport, Utilities & Public Works". The entrance to the road is between the Newport Grand Slots and the traffic circle. At first stop sign, make a right. At the second stop sign, make a right.

Continue straight so you pass the Department of Utilities and the Public Services garage building on your left (this is a ONE WAY). At the end of the Public Services garage, take a left to go behind the building. The Clean City Program office is in the first door on the left, just passed the garage bays. There is a blue Clean City sign above the door.

If you are coming by to recycle an item or purchase trash carts, please call 845-5613 ahead of time to make sure someone will be able to assist you.
