As part of the Phase 1 Part 2 Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Control Plan completed in January 2007, segments of sanitary sewer pipe between manholes on nineteen City streets were identified for short term remediation.
The existing pipe segments mostly constructed of vitrified clay pipe, were noted to have defects including sags, misaligned pipes, and cracked sections of pipe. The replacement project is intended to fix these noted defects and will eliminate a portion of the inflow of groundwater into the system. Piping between manholes will be replaced with new PVC piping.
In November, 2009 the City Council awarded the construction contract in the amount of $1,675,119.00 to J.A.M. Construction Co., Inc. for this project. Funding for this project will be provided by the Clean Water State Revolving Loan Funds (SRF) and eligible for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).
Construction is scheduled to start on February 1, 2010. The Department of Utilities will be distributing notices explaining the proposed work to the residents on the streets scheduled for sewer repairs as the work progresses.
The following streets or portions thereof will have sewer mains replaced:
As part of the City's ongoing work focused on mitigating CSO events at the Wellington Ave CSO Facility, the Department of Utilities identified storm drainage catch basins on eleven City streets and two parks requiring work to fully disconnect them from the Sanitary Sewer System.
This construction contract shall reseal or abandon existing catch basins, replace or install new drain piping, and restore paving and sidewalks as required to provide a finished product.
In January, 2010 the City Council awarded the construction contract in the amount of $532,445 to Boyle & Fogarty Construction Co., Inc. for this project. Funding for this project will be provided by the Clean Water State Revolving Loan Funds (SRF) and eligible for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).
Construction is scheduled to start on March 1, 2010. The Department of Utilities will be distributing notices explaining the proposed work to the residents on the streets scheduled for construction repairs as the work progresses.
The work is tentatively scheduled to be performed in the following order:
The Department of Utilities identified the sanitary sewer interceptor located in the railroad right of way between Van Zandt Avenue and Bridge Street in need of evaluation and probable repair or replacement.
This gravity sanitary sewer line is the critical main line or interceptor that collects and directs the wastewater from the northern section of the City to the Long Wharf Pump Station. The Railroad Interceptor consists of approximately 2,500 feet of 18? clay pipe in two foot sections. This improvement project consists of cleaning, sealing, root treatment, and select structural repairs of the sewer interceptor.
Twelve manholes will be rebuilt, including new covers and frames, rebuild inverts and benches, and new manhole tops.
In October, 2009 the City Council awarded the construction contract in the amount of $494,755.00 to New England Pipe Cleaning Co. for this project. Funding for this project will be provided by the Clean Water State Revolving Loan Funds (SRF) and is eligible for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).
Construction is scheduled to start on March 8, 2010. The Department of Utilities will be distributing notices explaining the proposed work to the residents on the abutting streets as the work progresses.
