  • A local marketing research firm, Performance Plus, on behalf of the City of Newport would like to talk to residents of Newport about issues facing your city.   • Rain Barrels - The Department of Utilities, Water Division is again partnering with the New England Rain Barrel Company to offer rain barrels at a reduced cost for Newport residents. The rain barrels are for sale until June 4th for only $68.00 rather than the regular price of $99.00. Rain Barrels will be available for pickup Saturday, June 7, 2008, 9am to noon at the Department of Utilities office at 70 Halsey Street.   • The Finance Department (Tax Collection) has issued a statement concerning Guest Hangtags - If you have lost or destroyed the hangtag guest pass issued in 2006, a signed affidavit and proper ID is required for a replacement. Excellence in Financial Reporting - The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the City of Newport by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

City Wide Revaluation - Pursuant to Rhode Island General Laws, the City of Newport has undergone a City wide revaluation. Details of new values are hosted at Vision Appraisal. These values should reflect the market value of the real estate as of December 31, 2005. Taxpayers are reminded that the tax rate will be adjusted to compensate for the values.
