Fire Department

The Newport Fire Department is committed to preserving lives and property within the community through the control of fires, accidents, and other emergencies. By offering Fire fighting, ALS Emergency Medical Services, and Fire Prevention Services to the 24,000+ residents, the Newport Fire Department pledges to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, efficiency, and effectiveness to its citizens.

City to Launch Safe Stations Program

In an effort to combat the opioid epidemic, the City of Newport is pleased to announce that it will soon be launching a Safe Stations program. 
 
Beginning later this month, anyone battling addiction will be able to visit any of Newport’s three fire stations to access treatment and recovery services from trusted community partners with no fear of prosecution.

Annual Santa’s Ride to Kick Off Tuesday, Dec. 12th
  
NEWPORT, R.I. (THURSDAY, NOV. 30, 2023) – With the holiday season officially upon us, the City of Newport is once again busy preparing for the return of Santa’s nightly rides.

Beginning Tuesday, Dec. 12th, Santa will be escorted by Newport’s Fire and Police Departments for his annual tour of Newport’s neighborhoods.
 

Newport Family Gifts $250,000 to Fire Department

Donation to Help Fund New Rescue Vehicle, Spur Engine Replacement
  
NEWPORT, R.I. (WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2023) – The City of Newport is pleased to announce that the Newport Fire Department has received a significant gift from a local family that will help the City bolster its emergency response fleet.

Newport residents George and Susan Petrovas have donated $250,000 to the City's Fire Department, which will immediately help pay for a new Emergency Medical Rescue and help expedite the scheduled replacement of one of the City’s large apparatus engines.

NEWPORT TO RECEIVE $738,000 FIREFIGHTERS GRANT

15 Firefighters to Train in Paramedic Emergency Medical Care
  
NEWPORT, R.I. (THURSDAY, AUGUST 17, 2023) – The City of Newport has been awarded a $738,881.31 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to pay for the training of a minimum of 15 Firefighters to the Paramedic Level of Prehospital Emergency Medical Care Licensing.

The grant, which was secured through the efforts of Newport Fire Department staff with the support of Rhode Island’s Congressional Delegation led by the office of U.S. Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.), stipulates that $671,710.28 will be provided by FEMA, with a $67,171.03 match provided by the City of Newport.
