City to Collaborate with Navy, URI on Coastal Threats
Grant to Examine the Effects of Sea Level Rise, Storm Surge in and Around Navy Base, West Side of Aquidneck Island
NEWPORT, R.I. (Thursday, October 15, 2020) – The City of Newport is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $598,000 grant from the Department of Defense, Office of Economic Adjustment, to develop strategies to protect critical resources along the West Side of Aquidneck Island from the anticipated effects of storm surge and sea level rise.
City to Host Halloween Spooktacular at Easton’s Beach

NEWPORT, R.I. (Thursday, October 15, 2020) – Halloween is right around the corner and while the Coronavirus might put a damper on this year's festivities, the Newport Recreation team is busy planning a special Trick or Treat at the Beach!
On Saturday, October 31st, Newport Recreation will be hosting a Halloween Drive-Thru Spooktacular at Easton’s Beach.
Water Main Flushing Set to Begin
NEWPORT, R.I. (Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020) – As part of the Newport Water Division’s ongoing maintenance of the water distribution system, a modified water main flushing program in designated areas will begin during evening hours beginning Sunday, October 18, 2020 and ending October 29, 2020.
The flushing of the water mains using fire hydrants will begin at 8:00 p.m. and continue until 4:00 a.m. Signs will be posted in each area before flushing begins. The flushing will occur in areas that have been prioritized due to drought conditions. We plan to resume a full flushing program in Spring 2021.
