The project is part of an effort by the City's Water Pollution Control Division to curb flooding in one of Newport's most historically sensitive and at-risk neighborhoods: The Point.
The April 9th meeting followed a June 2018 session that introduced the concept to the community, and provided an overview of what residents can expect during the construction process, which is expected to be complete by July. Once installed, the tidal gate will help prevent the influx of water into the City's stormwater system, which in recent years has seen an increase in the number of tide-related flooding events. Thursday, August 22, 2019 The tide gate project at Storer Park is substantially complete. The 48" tide gate and structure is operational as of July 17, 2019. The site has been regraded with loam and seeded. Fencing remains around the disturbed area until the grass is reestablished.
