City of Newport Kicking Off Easton’s Beach Workshops

Collaborative Visioning Process Set for the Future of Newport’s Iconic Beach

NEWPORT, R.I. (WEDNESDAY, MAY 21, 2025) –The City of Newport, in collaboration with a multidisciplinary design team, is launching a monthlong series of public workshops focused on the future of Easton’s Beach.

Kicking off June 4^th, the dynamic series of events is designed to engage the community by bringing together residents, stakeholders, and experts to co-develop a vision that pairs necessary investments to mitigate environmental risks with enhancements that preserve and elevate the Beach as a beloved local asset and regional tourism anchor.

Following a kickoff presentation, the workshop series will continue June 16^th – 18^th with interactive site walks, community visioning sessions, and design open houses all aimed at creating a shared roadmap for the Beach’s future. Community feedback will play a central role in guiding concept development and informing future design decisions, with a final virtual presentation set for June 30^th.

The goal of the workshops is to co-create a sustainable and vibrant future for Easton’s Beach, balancing critical infrastructure needs with the recreational, environmental, and cultural value the Beach holds for the people of Newport and its many visitors.

The first session, scheduled for June 4^th at City Hall from 5-7 p.m., will provide an overview of the project to date and share results of the feedback gleaned from a previous workshop held in January.

Community members are encouraged to participate in as many events as they wish—attendance at every session is not required to contribute meaningfully to the process. Each event is an opportunity to shape the vision for a resilient and welcoming Easton’s Beach.

Beach Walkshop	June 16, 3PM – 4:30PM	Easton’s Beach, 175 Memorial Blvd	An on-site walking tour exploring existing conditions. Participants will discuss priorities, concerns, and ideas for the Beach’s future.
Community Visioning Session	June 16, 6PM – 8PM	Innovate Newport, 513 Broadway	Presentation of scientific and design data followed by hands-on engagement with the design team at interactive stations.
Design Open House #1	June 17, 5PM – 7PM	Newport Elks Lodge, 141 Pelham St	Presentation of in-progress concept designs with opportunities for community feedback.
Design Open House #2	June 18, 3PM – 5PM	DiStefano Hall at Salve Regina University	Revised concept designs presented based on community input from Open House #1. Participants will engage in discussion and provide direct feedback.
Final Workshop Presentation	June 30, 6PM – 8PM	Virtual (Zoom link to be posted soon)	Presentation of final design concept informed by public and city leadership input.
