Residents, Non-Profits, Businesses Encouraged to Weigh In
 
NEWPORT, R.I. (THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 2021) – The City of Newport is asking residents, business owners, and non-profits to weigh in on how the City should use roughly $7.2 million in federal funding due to be received through the American Rescue Plan Act.
 
Non-profits are being asked to submit any and all suggestions for how they could benefit from additional civic support by using the form on the City’s website at www.CityofNewport.com/ARPA no later than Thursday, Oct. 14th. Read more »

Community Input Being Sought on COVID-Related Funds
 
NEWPORT, R.I. (THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2021 ) – With the City of Newport expected to receive over $7 million in dedicated federal funding from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), City officials will be kicking off a public engagement process next week to solicit ideas from individuals and non-profits to determine how best to utilize these dedicated one-time funds.

According to federal guidelines, Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds are intended to provide eligible state, local, territorial, and Tribal governments with an infusion of resources to meet pandemic response needs and rebuild a stronger, and more equitable economy.

Assessment Aimed at Determining Federal Disaster Assistance Eligibility
 
NEWPORT, R.I. (FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 2021 ) – For the second time in less than a month, the City of Newport has begun compiling storm-related damage from residents and businesses that could be eligible for federal disaster reimbursement.

Newport residents and business owners impacted by the remnants of Hurricane Ida are being encouraged to submit storm-related damage reports to the City’s Emergency Management Agency via the City’s website at www.CityofNewport.com/StormDamage. Read more »

Downtown Stormwater Improvement Project Set to Begin

Second Phase of Marsh Street Storm Drain Improvement Project

NEWPORT, R.I. -- (FRIDAY, AUG. 27, 2021) The City of Newport’s Department of Utilities is set to begin work on a critical downtown stormwater infrastructure project next week.

The work, which is scheduled to get underway Monday, Aug. 30th, is the second phase of the Marsh Street Storm Drain Improvement Plan and is expected to rehabilitate roughly 1,270 linear feet of badly deteriorated storm drains located in the City’s downtown core. The project is scheduled to begin on Thames Street before continuing to West Marlborough Street and America’s Cup Avenue. Read more »

(TUESDAY, AUGUST 24, 2021 ) – Due to an equipment malfunction related to the City’s ADA accessible elevator at City Hall, Council action on docket items for the regularly scheduled Aug. 25th meeting of the Newport City Council will be continued to a special meeting to be held on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021 at 6:30 p.m.

NEWPORT, R.I. (Wednesday, August 18, 2021) – With the summer traffic season still in full swing, the City of Newport is looking for community input to help guide its first comprehensive Transportation Master Plan.
 
Throughout the summer, City Planning staff and volunteers have been busy gathering public input and analyzing data aimed at making it easier, cleaner, and safer to get around Newport. Now through Sept. 17th, the City is looking to collect as many ideas, concerns, and suggestions as possible either digitally or in-person at any one of a number of planned pop-up events and public workshops. Masks to Be Required in City Owned Buildings

Indoor Mask Policy to Begin Monday, Aug. 2nd
 
NEWPORT, R.I. (WEDNESDAY, JULY 28, 2021 ) – Visitors to Newport City Hall and other public buildings including the Newport Maritime Center and Police Station, will be required to wear masks while inside regardless of vaccination status beginning Monday, August 2nd.
 
The new indoor mask policy is being instituted as COVID19 cases continue to rise across the country, driven primarily by the spread of the Delta variant and lagging vaccination rates. Read more »
