Parking Ban Issued Ahead of Winter Storm

Residents Urged to Keep Cars Off Streets, Utilize City Parking Lots
 
NEWPORT, R.I. (Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020) –  Due to the impending winter storm, the City of Newport has announced that a Parking Ban will be in place beginning at 9 p.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2020, until 5 p.m. Thursday, December 17, 2020.

NEWPORT, R.I. (Friday, October 30, 2020) – The Newport Police Department will be adding additional patrols this weekend in an effort to ensure that Newporters are able to enjoy a healthy and safe Halloween weekend.

Like other communities, Newport’s public safety team has been responding to a higher than usual volume of calls over the last several weeks, including several occurrences of vandalism and gun-related incidents which are currently under investigation.

Newport Recreation to Host Election Day Mini Camp

One-Day Camp Aims to Help Parents while Schools are Closed
 
NEWPORT, R.I. (Monday, October 26, 2020) – With Newport Public Schools closed for the day on Tuesday, Nov. 3^rd in observance of Election Day, the Newport Recreation team will be offering a special one-day Mini Camp to provide parents with a safe and supervised option for their child’s day off.

This special Election Day mini camp is open to children in Grades 1-3 and will run from 8:15 a.m. until 3 p.m. at The Hut on Golden Hill Street. Read more »

Water Main Flushing Set to Begin

NEWPORT, R.I. (Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020) – As part of the Newport Water Division’s ongoing maintenance of the water distribution system, a modified water main flushing program in designated areas will begin during evening hours beginning Sunday, October 18, 2020 and ending October 29, 2020.

The flushing of the water mains using fire hydrants will begin at 8:00 p.m. and continue until 4:00 a.m.   Signs will be posted in each area before flushing begins.  The flushing will occur in areas that have been prioritized due to drought conditions. (Friday, October 9, 2020) – Newport businesses interested in applying for the City’s Take It Outside grant program are being encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible in order to secure reimbursement for the procurement of tents, propane heaters, and jersey barriers.
