Storer Park and Goat Island Causeway: The City's contractor, East Coast Construction, has now installed construction site fencing, started concrete demolition, and begun some of the seawall improvements.
We’re hopeful this good weather will continue and they will complete a substantial amount of work in short order. However, please note that this work, like all outside construction, is highly weather dependent. High tides during working hours may also hinder progress on the seawall.
In addition to repairing a critical coastal barrier, the project also calls for the concrete paved areas in the park adjacent to the seawalls to be removed and replaced with a concrete Harbor Walk sidewalk, and for large grass areas to be installed along the pier, replacing a vast area of degrading concrete.
Construction is on hold during winter shutdown. Restart anticipated spring 2020.
Several areas throughout the City will have their sidewalks reconstructed, curbs reset, and disability access improved in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Sidewalk areas in poor condition will be replaced in-kind.
Project areas include:
Morton Park: extension of sidewalk access to playgrounds plus other access improvements. Completed.
Miantonomi Park: handicap sidewalk access to new restroom building
Freeborn Street: Minor sidewalk repair at tennis courts. Completed.
Birkhead Place: Mary Street to end
Doctor Marcus Wheatland: Marlbourough to Equality Park Place
Edward King House: Jones Street to driveway plus fitness area. Completed.
Gibbs Avenue: Memorial Blvd to Old Beach Road
Washington Street: Gladys Carr Bolhouse to Long Wharf & Van Zandt to Sycamore
Vernon Avenue: Hoppin Road to Broadway driveway. Completed.
Thank you for your patience during construction. Though access to properties will be maintained, there will be some inconveniences as driveways are replaced, sidewalks are poured, and the road is repaved.
Please cut back your vegetation and remove any objects on the sidewalks, shoulders, and within the City's right-of-way.
Parking may be restricted during the working week from 7 AM to 4 PM
Construction is on hold during winter shutdown.
Road yellow center line striping, crosswalks, stop bars, and other pavement markings will be repainted throughout the city. Because this work requires large areas of the City and negatively impacts traffic flow, the vast majority of the work occurs over night (8 pm to 6 am). This work is ongoing and paint application is highly weather dependent (e.g., wet streets and cold weather prohibits paint installation).
Bellevue Avenue's concrete roadway surface has areas which are in poor condition. The small areas will be repaired with fast setting concrete. Large panels in poor condition (e.g., near the Redwood Library) will be replaced fully. Due to the immensity of this ongoing maintenance issue, this is a multi-year project which will use funds to address the worst and most cost effective areas with distressed concrete.
