Cliff Walk Recognized with two “Best Of Rhode Island” Awards
Cliff Walk Recognized with two “Best Of Rhode Island” Awards
Sunday, April 14, 2019
NEWPORT -- Newport’s world-famous Cliff Walk, the most popular tourist attraction in Rhode Island, was recently recognized by Rhode Island Magazine as the “Best Hike in Rhode Island” and “The Best Free Activity in Newport County.”
The Cliff Walk Commission, which oversees the 3.5-mile coastal trail, accepted the award on behalf of the many partners who have devoted their time and talent to caring for the popular attraction. “This is a true honor,” said Cliff Walk Commission Chairman Peter Janaros in offering thanks to all of the volunteers and City staff who care for the Walk throughout the year.
“On behalf of the Cliff Walk Commission, I’d like to thank the entire team at City Hall especially Mayor Henry Winthrop and the Newport City Council, and the City Administration, most notably the engineering and Public Services staff who are charged with the day-to-day maintenance of the path; and the Newport Fire and Police Departments which work tirelessly to ensure the Cliff Walk is a safe and beautiful place to visit.”
“Most of all,” Janaros said “I’d like to thank all of the more than 1 million people who use the Cliff Walk throughout the year. Caring for this beloved coastal treasure is truly a community effort. Without help from the City, scores of volunteers, committee members, and the property owners along the Walk, we simply wouldn’t have such an outstanding experience to share.”
As the only National Recreational Trail within a National Historic District in the United States, the Cliff Walk offers visitors a truly unique experience, offering sweeping vistas over the Atlantic Ocean and has long been Newport’s most popular tourist attraction.
