City, State & Federal Leaders Celebrate Innovate Newport

NEWPORT, R.I. -- City, State, and Federal officials gathered under sun-drenched skies on Monday, June 3rd, at the site of the former Sheffield Elementary School to mark the grand opening of Innovate Newport.
A joint effort between the City of Newport, the Economic Development Foundation of Rhode Island, and the Newport County Development Council (the non-profit arm of the Newport County Chamber of Commerce), the roughly $8 million project to convert the longtime school building into a hub for entrepreneurs with roughly 33,000-square feet of co-working, event, and private office space officially opened its doors this week.

Detour Slated for Bellevue Avenue at Catherine Street

NEWPORT -- Motorists who rely on Catherine Street are advised to anticipate detours in the area as road construction gets underway on Catherine Street at the intersection with Bellevue Avenue on Tuesday, May 21st.
Work is expected to wrap up by Friday morning as crews complete a final concrete restoration project from previous work done by National Grid Gas. The sub-contractor Hartford Paving will be completing the work and police officers will be onsite to facilitate traffic. Anyone needing access to businesses or homes within closed section of Catherine will be allowed access via police officers onsite.
