City Hall, Offices Closed to the Public

City Hall, Offices Closed to the Public

In light of current concerns related to the COVID-19 outbreak, please note that all City Offices will be closed to the public beginning Monday, March 23.

While City Hall had previously been limited to essential city business only for the last week, beginning Monday, City offices will be available strictly by phone, email, or on a limited appointment only basis. Individual departments will remain fully staffed and any residents, establishments or entities who have ongoing business with the City are encouraged to conduct it online or via telephone.

Residents Asked to Sign up for Emergency Alerts

As part of the City’s ongoing effort to improve its emergency preparedness and response capabilities, the City of Newport has transitioned to a new emergency notification system designed to significantly enhance the City’s ability to communicate with residents, businesses, and visitors in the event of an emergency.  

With the summer season quickly approaching, Newporters are encouraged to sign up for our Smart911 emergency alert system. To learn more about our E-Alert system, be sure to click the link below.

Canvassing Office Set to Accept Candidate Declarations

Newport Residents Encouraged to Run for Office

NEWPORT, R.I. (Wednesday, June 17, 2020) – The City of Newport is reminding all Newport residents interested in running for office in the upcoming November election that they must file a Declaration of Candidacy with the City’s board of canvassers between June 22 and June 24.

City Assisting Organizers of Peaceful Protest

NEWPORT, R.I. (Friday, June 12, 2020) – The City of Newport is providing support for a human rights demonstration scheduled for 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 13 at Miantonomi Park in the City’s North End.

In addition to supplying staging and sound equipment for a speaker’s program, the City has also been working with organizers to ensure pedestrian safety for a planned march that will take demonstrators from Miantonomi Park to Equality Park.
 

Statement on Black Lives Matter Rhode Island Demonstration

 
NEWPORT, R.I. (Friday, June 5, 2020) – The City of Newport and its community partners are preparing to welcome demonstrators to Aquidneck Island on Saturday, June 6th for a planned peaceful demonstration sparked by the murder of George Floyd.
 
As a City, we fully support those who wish to exercise their Constitutional right to peacefully assemble and will do our part to make sure that any and all demonstrations are carried out in as safe a manner as possible.
