Living in Newport

The City of Newport is located at the southern end of Aquidneck Island in Narragansett Bay, about 30 miles southeast of Rhode Island's capital of Providence.  The City is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean on the east and the south, Narragansett Bay on the west, and by the Town of Middletown on the northeast.  Newport is 11 square miles in size, with 7.7 square miles of land and 3.3 square miles of inland water. Location is readily accessible to the west by Interstate 95 via the Jamestown and Pell Bridges, and to the north by Routes 24 and Interstate 195 via the Mount Hope Bridge and the Sakonnet River Bridge.

NEWPORT, R.I. (WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 24, 2022) – The Newport Water Division is urging residents across Aquidneck Island, especially those who are home during the day, to be alert for impostors.

The Newport Water Division has received reports from customers who have been approached by individuals posing as Water Division personnel.
 

Season's End Approaching at Easton's Beach

Lifeguard Shifts to End 1 Hour Earlier Beginning Aug. 29th
  
NEWPORT, R.I. (TUESDAY, AUG. 23rd, 2022) – As the summer season winds down, the City of Newport is beginning to scale back operations at Easton’s Beach.

Beginning Monday, Aug. 29th, lifeguards will be on duty from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. through the end of the beach season.   

City of Newport Updated Notice of Privacy Incident

City Concludes Investigation into Privacy Incident
  
NEWPORT, R.I. (MONDAY, AUGUST 15h, 2022) – The City of Newport announced today that it has concluded the investigation of a previously announced security incident.  

As previously announced, on June 9, 2022, the City identified unusual network activity that caused certain systems in its network to become unavailable. The City immediately took steps to secure its network and launch an investigation with the assistance of a cybersecurity firm. The City also notified law enforcement and worked to support its investigation.
