Community Asked to help Light up the Harbor this July 4th

Newport Looking for Donations for Annual Fireworks Fund
 
NEWPORT, R.I. (THURSDAY, MAY 25, 2023) – The City of Newport is gearing up for its annual Fourth of July fireworks celebration and is once again turning to the community to help light up Newport Harbor.

Every year, thousands of locals and visitors alike flock to downtown Newport to take in the City’s annual Fourth of July fireworks display.

Newport Launching Park Ranger Program

Program Aims to Serve, Inform Park Users
 
NEWPORT, R.I. (THURSDAY, MAY 25, 2023) – There’s a new ranger in town. The City of Newport is set to launch a new seasonal Park Ranger program this summer to provide visitors to the City’s network of public parks a helping hand and to be on the look out for potential hazards and quality of life issues. 

The program, which is the first municipal program of its kind in Rhode Island, stems from a series of community meetings related to park use and safety that began last year, culminating in a Park Safety Report drafted by the Tree & Open Space Commission and presented to the City Council.

Newport City Manager to Leave Service

NEWPORT, R.I. (WEDNESDAY, MAY 10, 2023) – After 37 years with the City, longtime Newport City Manager Joseph J. Nicholson, Jr. is set to step down from public service this fall.

Nicholson, whose current contract was set to run through June of 2024, informed the City Council of his intention in an email on May 4th with a plan to submit a formal letter of resignation in July.
