Parking & Transportation

In summer, especially weekends, Newport tends to be congested with traffic and on-street parking is difficult to find. Visitors are encouraged to park at the Newport Gateway Center at 23 America's Cup Avenue.

The City also operates the Mary Street lot, between Mary and Church Streets. This facility has a 120 car capacity, has a public restroom and provides residents with up to three hours of free parking once per day (Resident Sticker required). Click here for a list of all of the City's Public Parking lots.

Paid Metered Parking

Seasonal parking kiosks are located throughout the downtown area and at various points around the City.

In addition to paying via credit card or cash at the meter, motorists are also encouraged to pay via the Passport Parking App. Simply park where you see PassportParking signs & decals, pay for your parking session from your phone, and be on your way!

Public Parking Lots

Public parking lots equipped with automated parking kiosks are located throughout the downtown area and at various points around the City. Click here for a list of all of the City's Public Parking lots.

Downtown Employee Parking

Discounted parking is available through the City's Downtown Employee Parking Program. The Employee Discount Parking Program, which runs from May 1st until Oct. 31st, is intended to provide employees and businesses in the waterfront/downtown area, that do not have sufficient parking for their employees, with an option for parking at the Gateway Visitors Center parking lot at a significant discount to the posted rates.

Eligibility
Any business located in the waterfront/downtown area of the City of Newport is eligible for the Employee Discount Parking Program.

Additionally, individuals that work in the downtown area whose employer does not participate in the program may purchase discount parking stickers provided they show proof of employment, such as a current paystub.

All employees participating in the Employee Discount Parking Program, whether the stickers were purchased by the employer or the employee, may be required to provide identification upon exiting the lot to verify they are entitled to the discount.

How it works
Participants in the Employee Discount Parking Program are required to complete a Discount Parking Program application available at the attendant booth in the Gateway Parking Lot. Upon completion of the application, and payment of the appropriate fee, participants will be issued the discount parking stickers.

Cost

Discount parking stickers are available at a cost of $6.00 per sticker (minimum of twenty stickers) and are good for twelve hours of parking per day. For time in excess of twelve hours, the parker has the option of using an additional sticker or paying the actual computed rate for hours or portions thereof in excess of twelve hours. Applications are available at the Gateway Parking Lot Attendant Booth. If you have any questions, please contact the City’s Transportation Manager at (401) 845-5712
