RECYCLE YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE – January 10th - 14th, 2022
Only Yard Waste Pick-Up Until March 2022
Give your Christmas tree back to nature — recycle it! Christmas trees are due to be collected the second week of January (10th – 14th), on your normal collection day along with any other live decorations and yard waste that you may have. After the week of January 10-14, yard waste collection is not scheduled again until March 7-11, 2022.
Here’s what you need to know:
  • Remove all artificial decorations such as tinsel, garland, ornaments, lights and bulbs.
  • Put your Christmas tree out on your regularly scheduled collection day by 6:00 am.
  • Please do not put trees in plastic bags. They will be left curbside if in plastic bag.
  • NO artificial trees will be collected.

The Newport Clean City Program would like to inform residents that the Waste Management Transfer Station will be closed on Monday, January 17, 2022 for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Holiday. As a result there is a one-day collection delay for all trash, recycling and bulky waste collections. All City of Newport offices will be closed.

The 2022 Yard Waste & Holiday Calendar is now available. Please see link on this page. Printed copies are available at City Hall, 43 Broadway.

There will be ONE collection week in January 2022 for Christmas trees, holiday decorations and extra yard waste on your normal collection day the week of January 10th through 14th. Regular yard waste collections will resume in March 2022.
The 2022 Yard Waste & Holiday Calendar is available online (see above link)
and at the Information Desk at City Hall, 43 Broadway.

Bulky Waste Stickers are available for purchase at the Tax Collector’s Office, located on the first floor of Newport City Hall at 43 Broadway. They accept cash or check only for the purchase of stickers. Please be aware that Bulky Waste Stickers are non-refundable and expire within one year of purchase
Bulky Waste appointments for pickup can be scheduled with Waste Management for the first and third Thursdays of each month. The next available Bulky Waste pickup dates are Thursday, January 6th and Friday, January 21st (one-day delay due to holiday). Deadline to purchase stickers is the day before at noon in order to allow time for scheduling the pickup request.
Information on the Bulky Waste program can be found by clicking here.

How many stickers an item requires is based on the item. Stickers are $15 each and must be purchased prior to making the appointment for pickup.

YARD WASTE COLLECTIONS occur on your normal scheduled collection day (except where noted one day delay for holiday) and are scheduled: one week in January, one week in March, four weeks in April, every other week from May through October, three weeks in November and one week in December. Waste Management will collect leaves, grass clippings and branches less than four inches in diameter (and no more than three feet in length) placed either in paper bags, tied in bundles or in 32-gallon garbage cans (no Yard Waste Only sticker required). Any yard waste material left in plastic bags will be left behind on the curbside. Please see link for the 2022 Holiday and Yard Waste Calendar.
For disposal of larger tree branches, brush or stumps that do not qualify for the Yard Waste Collection program, residential property owners may bring excess yard waste and brush to the Waste Management Transfer Station. Disposal of excess and oversized yard waste at the transfer station is not counted as one of the two free dumps offered to residential property owners and may be done without fees. Property owners must be with the load and provide government issued photo ID and proof of residency (tax bill or water bill). NO EXCEPTIONS.

If you are unable to transport the materials yourself, you may contract with a private contractor. However, to avoid the disposal fees, the property owner must be present with the load and present government issued photo id and proof of residency (copy of tax bill or water bill).

Please see link below for additional information on the Waste Management Transfer Station.
