Annual Kayak & Dinghy Rack Lottery Slated for March 4th

NEWPORT, R.I. -- Kayakers and dinghy owners take note: Now is the time to get your applications in for the Newport Harbormaster’s Office annual dinghy and kayak rack space lottery.
Spaces, which will be determined through a lottery system, will be selected with a random drawing scheduled to be held on March 4, at 9 a.m. at the Harbormaster Office, 39 America’s Cup Ave., with all welcome to attend.

Storer Park Seawall Repairs Begin

NEWPORT, R.I. (Feb. 3, 2020) -- The City's seawall contractor will be taking full advantage of the mild winter we’ve been having so far by getting a head start on a project to restore the seawall at Storer Park and the Goat Island Causeway.
East Coast Construction will be starting concrete demolition the week of February 3, 2020. The work, which is highly weather dependent, requires the installation of a temporary fence which will remain in place while crews complete what we expect will be a vast improvement to one of the City’s most popular parks.

Warming Centers Open

NEWPORT, R.I. (Thursday, Jan. 16, 2020) -- Warming Centers will be open across the City over the coming days as the National Weather Service is forecasting a sudden drop in temperatures beginning Thursday, Jan. 16th.
Each of the City's five designated warming centers will be open for all those who need to warm up, including the Overnight Shelter at the Seamen's Church Institute of Newport which will be open beginning tonight, Thursday, Jan. 16th from 4 p.m. until 7 a.m. and Friday, Jan. 17th from 4 p.m. until 7 a.m.

NEWPORT, R.I. (Friday, January 10, 2020) – As the 2020 Census gets underway, the City of Newport is taking steps to ensure that this year’s demographic count is the most accurate possible.
As one of Rhode Island’s identified “Hard to Reach Communities” in the 2010 Census, the City of Newport applied for -- and was awarded -- $13,000 from the Rhode Island Census 2020 Fund to participate in the Complete Count Committee, a state-wide initiative to ensure an accurate Census count.
