Newport Recreation Suspends all Youth & Adult Programming

Youth Activities to Continue as Scheduled until Further Notice

NEWPORT, R.I (Thursday, March 12, 2020) – In an effort to limit the potential spread of COVID-19, Newport Recreation has suspended all scheduled Adult Programming for the next two weeks. This includes all pickelball programming and adult walking and rentals at The Hut.

The decision follows guidance received by the Rhode Island Department of Health and the Governor’s Office aimed at reducing the spread of the virus through social distancing.

Newport Recreations strives to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of all its participants. As a result, and in light of the current climate, staff decided to cancel all adult programming scheduled for the next two weeks while further guidance is developed.
The City’s youth activities will continue as scheduled, however participants are reminded that all programs are subject to change. For any questions, please feel free to contact Newport Recreation at (401) 401-845-5800.
In addition to following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Rhode Island Department of Health, Newporters are encouraged  to sign up for the City’s E-Alert system at www.CityofNewport.com/Alerts.
