May 25, 26, & 27 - Deadline for candidates to register to vote in order to be eligible to file a Declaration of Candidacy.
June 24, 25 & 26 - Declaration of Candidacy filing period. Candidates for general assembly, city council, school committee, district committee and local committee file a Declaration of Candidacy form with the Canvassing Office during this 3-day window.
June 27 - Deadline to submit party nominations, district committee endorsements, and ward committee endorsements
July 2 - Nomination Papers are available for pickup at the Canvassing Office
July 12 - Deadline to submit completed nomination papers to the Canvassing Office
July 15 - Deadline to file objections to candidates for local offices at the Canvassing Office
July 15 - Deadline to file withdrawals of candidacy for local offices at the Canvassing Office
July 17 - Deadline for decisions on objections to candidates
July 18 - Deadline for the Newport Canvassing Authority to certify nomination papers to the Secretary of State
August 11 - Deadline to register to vote and to file disaffiliations for the primaries.
August 16 - Preliminary list of registered voters eligible for the primaries available in the Canvassing Office and online here.
August 20 - Deadline to submit mail ballot applications for the primaries
August 20 - Board Meeting to canvass and correct the final list of voters eligible to vote in the primaries. The final list will be available in the Canvassing Office and online here.
August 21 - Early voting begins at City Hall during regular business hours in the 2nd Floor Conference Room and emergency ballots are available in the Canvassing Office.
September 6 - Deadline to submit nomination papers for presidential electors for independent candidates.
September 9 - Early voting and emergency ballots end at 4:00 p.m.
September 10 - Primary Day - polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and all mail ballots must be returned to the Board of Elections or placed in an authorized drop box by 8:00 p.m.
September 11 - Deadline to submit recount requests
September 12 - Deadline for the Newport Canvassing Authority to certifiy nomination papers to the Secretary of State for independent presidential electors.
October 6 - Deadline to register to vote in the general election

October 15 - Deadline to submit a mail ballot application
October 15 - Meeting of the Newport Canvassing Authority to canvass and correct the final list of registered voters for the general election. The final list will be available for inspection in the Canvassing Office and online here.
October 16 - Early voting begins and emergency ballots are available in the Canvassing Office.
November 4 - Early voting and emergency ballots end at 4:00 p.m.
November 5 - Election Day - polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and mail ballots must be received by the Board of Elections or put into an authorized drop box by 8:00 p.m.
