Public Services

We ensure that Newport's streets, sidewalks, and public spaces are safe, clean, and welcoming. We do that through a number of essential services designed to promote and maintain our quality of life such as keeping our streets and pedestrian corridors; caring for our parks and open space; reducing and collecting household waste; and promoting recreational activities and facilities.

Infrastructure Improvements

Living in a community as historic as Newport requires that we pay extra attention to our infrastructure. Our team works throughout the year to maintain and improve our roads, sidewalks, and municipal buildings.

Beach & Recreation

We pride ourselves on our quality of life, and our Beach & Recreation staff is dedicated to helping Newporters enjoy our natural environment and build community through recreational activities.

Trees, Parks & Open Space

Newport boasts some of the most beautiful outdoor spaces anywhere on the East Coast. We're responsible for maintaining, and enhancing those spaces for our residents, visitors, and generations to come.

Trash & Recycling

We know that we live in a special place and we're committed to caring for our environment. Our mission is to make Newport both Clean and Green. We do this through a strategy of waste collection, reduction, and recycling.

Our mission is to enhance the quality of life and protect the public interest through sound environmental policies, enforcing codes and ordinances, and provide efficient public services in the areas of solid waste management, recycling, and public works.

Easton's Beach Repair Information

Easton's Beach Repair Information

  TAKE THE SURVEY!

As one of the City’s most popular attractions, Easton's Beach has been a centerpiece of Newport's summers for generations. However over the years the site has experienced a considerable amount of development and destruction. Reimagined time and again, Easton’s Beach has had many iterations, at one point featuring a rollercoaster, saltwater pool, boardwalk, and an ornate spired pavilion similar to those found along the coastlines of New York and New Jersey.

What's remained constant is that Mother Nature has always had other designs, with storm after storm taking its toll and reshaping both the landscape and the amenities that Newporters have enjoyed.

With the snack bar and carousel building recently taken down, and funding approved as part of the 2024 infrastructure bond, the City is once again looking to chart a new vision for the beach, with sea level rise and resilience at its core.

If you're interested in learning more about the current state of the beach and would like to help shape its future, then please be sure to visit www.CityofNewport.com/FutureBeach to get involved.
