Police Receive Grant Funding for New Equipment

NEWPORT, R.I. -- The U.S. Department of Justice provides funding for grants to assist state and local law enforcement agencies in their efforts to prevent or reduce crime and violence. These funds are made available to local law enforcement agencies through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Grant (JAG) Formula Program: Local Solicitation. The Newport Police Department has participated in the Direct JAG Program in the past, and has been allocated $14,631 in the 2019 solicitation. Read more »

City to Start Test of Proposed New Traffic Pattern

NEWPORT, R.I. (July 29, 2019) – Traffic changes are coming this week to the area surrounding the former Coffey’s Garage on Spring Street.

 

Beginning Wednesday, July 31st, Court House Street will be closed to vehicular traffic as the City tests a proposed traffic pattern at the request of the Historic Spring Leadership Committee.

We're Looking for Seasonal Help at Easton's Beach

NEWPORT, R.I. -- Do you want to work at the beach? We have several positions at Easton's Beach that we're looking to fill as soon as possible!

Some of the positions include gate attendants, carousel attendants, and laborers. These seasonal positions are available through Labor Day, up to 40 hours a week, 7 days a week. We also have a couple positions that will continue on through Columbus Day weekend, with 20-25 hours per week.

Take a Guided Tour of Newport's Common Burying Ground this Summer

NEWPORT, R.I . (June 25, 2019) --  The history of one of Newport's most notable public sites will come into focus this summer as members of the City's Historic Cemetery Advisory Commission volunteer to provide guided tours of Newport's Common Burying Ground. 

The tours, which kick off on Saturday June 29th, will take place through August departing at 10 a.m. every Saturday from the Warner Street entrance at Burnside Avenue.
