Zoning Board Applications to Move Online

Tuesday, April 1, 2025

Zoning Board Applications to Move Online

Application Portal to Open Wednesday, April 9th

NEWPORT, R.I.  – The City of Newport is continuing to add to its suite of online services. Beginning next week, applications for upcoming meetings of the Zoning Board of Review will be processed exclusively online through a new application portal set to be introduced on Wednesday, April 9th.

The change follows a new requirement passed by the Rhode Island General Assembly aimed at establishing a uniform filing process across all 39 cities and towns in the state.

The shift from paper applications to an online-only format aligns with the City of Newport's ongoing efforts to streamline government services and enhance accessibility, and will utilize the same ViewPoint system as the City’s online Building Permit process.

The goal is to make the application process as efficient and user-friendly as possible with staff available to assist anyone who may need guidance or help with the transition to the new online system.

In addition to the Zoning Board of Review, online applications for the City’s Planning Board
and Historic District Commission are also expected to be introduced in the coming months. For more information or to file an application, visit www.CityofNewport.com/ZoningBoard.
