Detour Slated for Bellevue Avenue at Catherine Street

NEWPORT -- Motorists who rely on Catherine Street are advised to anticipate detours in the area as road construction gets underway on Catherine Street at the intersection with Bellevue Avenue on Tuesday, May 21st.
Work is expected to wrap up by Friday morning as crews complete a final concrete restoration project from previous work done by National Grid Gas. The sub-contractor Hartford Paving will be completing the work and police officers will be onsite to facilitate traffic. Anyone needing access to businesses or homes within closed section of Catherine will be allowed access via police officers onsite.

NEWPORT -- Construction season is in full swing, and crews charged with improving and maintaining Newport's network of roads and sidewalks will be spread across the City over the coming weeks in advance of the summer season. Last week, crews took advantage of fair weather to complete a multimodal improvement project along Marlborough Street designed to improve pedestrian and vehicular connectivity between America's Cup Avenue and the Broadway business District. Other projects are also underway and motorists should be advised that detours may be required while crews are on site. City Welcoming Renowned Classical Guitarist to Benefit School Music Programs

NEWPORT -- The Newport Hospitality Commission is excited to announce the return of world-renowned classical guitarist Diego Campagna to Newport for a special concert to benefit the City’s music programming at Thompson Middle School.
Campagna, a native of Imperia, Italy, will help kick off Memorial Day Weekend with a performance on Thursday, May 23rd at St. Mary’s Church on Spring Street, beginning at 6 pm.

Parking Season is in Effect

NEWPORT -- On-street metered parking is back in effect for the summer season. Motorists are reminded that metered parking in the City's downtown area runs from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. daily, May 1st through October 31st, including weekends and holidays. As a reminder, while most streets that fall within the residential parking zone will require vehicles to display a current residential parking sticker between the hours of 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., others require stickers 24 hours per day.
