City Hall, Offices Are Once Again Open to the Public

Masks continue to be required for entry to City Offices

NEWPORT, R.I. (TUESDAY, May 25, 2021) – Newport City Hall and Offices have once again opened to the public with walk-in hours available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

For the health and wellness of the community, all employees and members of the general public, vaccinated and unvaccinated, are asked to continue to wear a face-covering while engaging in all business transactions in all City offices. Read more »

Annual Fourth of July Fireworks to Return

City Encouraging the Community to Donate &  Become Co-Hosts

NEWPORT, R.I. (Thursday, May 20, 2021) – Fireworks will once again shine over Newport Harbor this year, as the City announced on Thursday that its annual Fourth of July fireworks display is set to return.
 
The annual tradition, which was cancelled last summer due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, is currently scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 4th at 9 p.m. with a rain date on July 5th. Read more »

Stone Pier Dinghy Sticker Program, Mooring Rules Returning to Normal this Summer

Normal Harbor Rules will be in Effect with Busy Season Expected

NEWPORT, R.I. (WEDNESDAY, April 28, 2021) –Boating season is just around the corner and Newport’s Harbormaster’s Office is advising boaters that all normal harbor rules will be in effect this year, including the City’s dinghy permitting program and mooring usage requirement, both of which were suspended last year due to COVID-19.
 
Applications for the City’s Stone Pier dinghy sticker program, which is intended to reduce the number of unattended vessels at the Stone Pier and to provide smaller vessel owners a place in the harbor, will be available beginning May 1st online through the City’s website at CityofNewport.com/Harbormaster or by calling (401) 845 - 5815. Parking Season Set to Begin

Paid and Resident Parking Programs to Start May 1st

NEWPORT, R.I. (Tuesday, April 20, 2021) – The City of Newport is gearing up for the start of its annual parking season and this year is aiming to make it a little easier to park around town thanks to some new technology.
Motorists are being reminded that the City’s Paid Parking Season is set to go into effect on Saturday, May 1st, and will run until October 31st with metered parking in effect from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. daily, including weekends and holidays. 

And while all City meters and Pay & Display machines have accepted either credit cards or coins for a number of years, this summer will be the first full season that motorists will be able to pay from their smartphones through the City’s new Passport Parking Mobile App. Read more »

Annandale Road Water Main Improvement Project Set to Begin

Project aims to improve water infrastructure & roadway surface

NEWPORT, R.I. (April 16, 2021) – Residents of the Annandale neighborhood as well as motorists passing through the area are being advised that the City of Newport’s Water Division has contracted with Biszko Contracting Corporation to clean and line the 20” water transmission main running below Annandale Road from Memorial Boulevard to Narragansett Avenue beginning next week. Composting Bins Available for Dirt Cheap Price thanks to RIRRC Partnership­­

NEWPORT, R.I. (THURSDAY, APRIL 15, 2021) – The City of Newport is encouraging its residents to help eliminate excess food waste by providing backyard compost bins at a “dirt cheap” price thanks to a grant from the Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation.
 
The grant funding, which was secured by the Department of Public Services, allows for City of Newport residents who attend a virtual RIRRC composting webinar to request a compost bin at a discounted rate of $17.50. Read more »

Spring Water Main Flushing Set to Begin

Overnight Program to Start Sunday, April 18th

NEWPORT, R.I. (April 13, 2021) –  As part of the Newport Water Division’s ongoing maintenance of the water distribution system, a modified water main flushing program in designated areas will begin during evening hours beginning Sunday, April 18, 2021, ending May 6, 2021.
 
Flushing of water mains using fire hydrants will begin at 8 p.m. and continue until 4 a.m.   Signs will be posted in each area before flushing begins.  Read more »
