Online Payments Offline Temporarily

Effective July 1st, the City of Newport will be introducing a new software program that will help streamline operations for City staff. Please note that while customers will still be able to conduct normal business inside City Hall, residents are advised that certain functions, including online payments, are expected to be impacted through July 18th.

Longtime Finance Director, Interim City Manager to Retire

Laura L. Sitrin, CPA to Leave City Service after 22 Years
 
NEWPORT, R.I. (July 9, 2024) – After more than two decades of service, Laura L. Sitrin, Newport’s  longtime Finance Director and Interim City Manager, has announced her retirement.

Sitrin informed the City Council of her intentions on Tuesday, July 9th, writing “I am deeply honored to have had the opportunity to serve the City of Newport for the last 22 years, and to work with such a dedicated and remarkable group of employees.”

Newport Water Division Crews Going Door-to-Door to Identify Lead Service Lines

Door Knocking Campaign to Cover Newport, Middletown

NEWPORT, R.I. (TUESDAY, June 18, 2024) – Aquidneck Island residents are advised that Newport Water Division crews will be going door-to-door to help identify lead service lines across Aquidneck Island.

The door knocking campaign, which is beginning this week, is part of the City’s Get the Lead Out program that aims to identify privately owned lead pipes that service homes and businesses.  
 

CITY SEEKING POLL WORKERS

Registered Voters Encouraged to Serve this Election Season

NEWPORT, R.I. (WEDNESDAY, June 12, 2024) – With election season getting underway, the City of Newport is looking for individuals interested in serving as Poll Workers for the upcoming primary and general elections.

Newport residents 16 years of age or older who are registered, or pre-registered to vote for those under 18, are encouraged to reach out to the City’s Canvassing Office at (401) 845-5386. Poll workers are able to make $275 per day, with various positions available and paid training offered as part of the recruitment process.

Canvassing Authority Meeting

The Newport Canvassing Authority is charged with conducting all elections for the City of Newport.

Under the direction of the State Board of Elections, and in cooperation with the Secretary of State, the Canvassing Authority is involved in all phases of the electoral process, from voter registration to tallying the votes after the polls close on election day.

Planning Board Meeting

The Planning Board is the steward for the City's Comprehensive Plan, which sets the long-term goal for the City and is a key measure by which large development projects and zoning relief are evaluated. ​Read the agenda
