City Council Invites Public to Welcome Our Sister City of Shimoda

NEWPORT, R.I. (Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2025) -- Newport City Councilors are inviting the public to join them at a reception on Thursday, October 24th at 5:30 p.m. at The Edward King House to welcome members of a delegation visiting from Newport’s Sister City of Shimoda, Japan.

The City of Newport has announced the launch of its newly revised Community Grant Programs, including details on eligibility, the application process, and key deadlines for community-based nonprofit organizations. Applications for Fiscal Year 2027 grants are due December 5, 2025.

Henderson Home Commission

The Henderson Home Commission is charged with overseeing the Henderson Home for Aged Men in accordance with the provisions contained in the will of William H. Henderson. 

City Council - Executive SessionĀ 

The City Council will discuss in Executive Session issues relating to the agreement for the sale of the Coggeshall School property, specifically the Buyer’s request for a credit for asbestos remediation costs.  Upon adjourning from Executive Session and convening back in Open Session, the Council may vote on any motion made on this issue.
