Kayak Rack Lottery Application Window Opens Feb. 1st

Applications will be accepted online only Feb. 1st-28th
 
NEWPORT, RI (THURSDAY, JANUARY 15, 2025) – Kayakers and dinghy owners take note: The Newport Harbormaster’s Office will be accepting applications for dinghy and kayak rack spaces at the King Park and Willow Street dinghy racks beginning Sunday, Feb. 1st until Feb. 28th.

Spaces will be determined through a lottery system, with a drawing held in March at the Newport Harbormaster’s Office.

This year’s applications will be accepted online only at www.CityofNewport.com/RackLottery
 

City of Newport Seeking Volunteers to Serve on Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee

Committee is One of Multiple Ways to Get Involved with Newport 2037
 
NEWPORT, RI (THURSDAY, DECEMBER 18, 2025) – The City of Newport is inviting residents, business owners, and community stakeholders to apply for the Newport Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee (NCPAC), a key advisory body supporting Newport 2037, the City’s update to its Comprehensive Plan.

From guiding decisions on land use to encouraging policy changes, Newport’s Comprehensive Plan serves as the City’s primary planning document, and is foundational to establishing a shared vision of Newport’s future.

Being a part of the NCPAC is expected to be a rigorous and exciting experience for those involved, and all are welcome to apply now through January 23rd via the City’s website at www.CityofNewport.com/NCPAC.
 

NEWPORT FIRE, POLICE SET TO ESCORT SANTA THROUGH NEWPORT’S NEIGHBORHOODS AGAIN THIS YEAR

Annual Santa’s Ride to Kick Off Tuesday, Dec. 9th
 
NEWPORT, RI (MONDAY, DEC. 1, 2025) –With the holiday season officially upon us, the City of Newport is once again busy preparing for the return of Santa’s nightly rides.
 
Santa is scheduled to meet up with Newport’s Fire and Police Departments beginning Tuesday, Dec. 9th for his annual tour of Newport’s neighborhoods.
 
This year, he’s planning on riding with our first responders through the streets to see the City’s children beginning at 5:30 p.m. each night on Tuesday December 9th, Thursday December 11th, Tuesday December 16th and finishing up on Thursday December 18th.

As always, Santa’s visit is weather dependent. If there is inclement weather on any night he is scheduled, he will do his very best to complete his visit in that area of the City on the following night. Santa and his Newport Fire & Newport Police escort will leave from Fire Station #2 on Old Fort Road at 5 p.m. each night and will continue until he has completed his tour of the listed area.
