City Cracking Down on Speed, Noise Violations
Motorists Asked to Drive Safely, Quietly This Summer or Face Fines
NEWPORT, R.I. (WEDNESDAY, May 25, 2022) – In anticipation of a busy summer season, the City of Newport is stepping up enforcement of its speed and noise ordinances, with police promising to crack down on motor vehicle violations throughout the summer season.
Police will be stepping up patrols to enforce existing local zoning ordinances as well as moving violations, taking particular notice of motorcycle groups and vehicles with modified exhaust systems.
Police began their stepped up enforcement last weekend, stopping motorists for both speed and noise violations.

Workshop Aims to Address Park Use & Safety
Tree and Open Space Commission Seeking Public Input for Potential Park Rules
NEWPORT, R.I. (WEDNESDAY, May 11th, 2022) –The Newport Tree and Open Space Commission will be holding a special workshop in the Program Room of the Newport City Library on Thursday, May 19 from 4:30 pm to 7 p.m. to hear from residents about how to improve the use and enjoyment of the City’s open space network.
The City’s park system comprises over 30 areas defined as parks or open space. These valuable public assets provide free and varied ways for residents and visitors to enjoy the natural environment. The Newport Tree, Park and Open Space Master Plan was adopted in 2017 with public input and provides a framework for managing these features of the natural environment.

Memorial Benches Coming to Storer Park
Applications Open for Eleven Memorial Bench Locations
NEWPORT, R.I. (MONDAY, May 9th, 2022) – The City’s Memorial Bench Program is coming to Storer Park.
The City of Newport’s Department of Public Services will be accepting applications for a total of 11 memorial bench sites to compliment the extensive improvements recently completed at Storer Park.
