When selling your home or commercial property the standard closing information must be presented to the Newport Water Division for any sale of property that is currently a customer of Newport Water. This form is often completed by your realtor or attorney and provides vital account information. The form also informs the seller and purchaser concerning outstanding billing amounts.
The associated fee for this request is $35.00. For your convenience you may type directly on the request form and complete online before printing. The form may be e-mailed or Faxed to 401-846-0947. Please note we require a minimum of 3 to 5 business days for a turnaround for the meter department to obtain a read and process the request through the department. The Request for Service Form (used for all other service requests) is used to request meter readings associated with a change in tenancy; to request seasonal turn on /off; to request shutdown of service, or to request a change to the billing address for a service location. To request a Meter Test please refer to the Water Meter Section and fill out and submit a Meter Test Request Form with applicable payment.

This is used for all temporary meters furnished by the Water Division for temporary purposes including, but not limited to, items such as construction or renovation. Current fees are $11.22/1,000 gal; meter rental $10.00 per day; Labor costs plus 75%. Please note that there is a $1,000 deposit required for rental of a temporary meter and a Temporary Water Service Application must be submitted.

This form can be used by homeowners age 65 and older as you are eligible for an exemption from paying the State's "Water Quality Protection Surcharge" on the water bill.
Water Quality Protection Charge based on actual water consumption is mandated by Rhode Island General Law, 46-15.3-5. A property owner age 65 and above is exempt from this charge if they are the property owner of record and do not rent the property at any time during the year and the property qualifies as the owners primary residence.If you meet the above criteria, please complete and return the Elderly Exemption Application and you will be exempt from this charge on future billings. Please send your application with a copy of your driver's license or your birth certificate with proof of residency to the City of Newport, Utilities Department, Water Division, at 70 Halsey St, Newport, RI 02840.
This form is used for a new water service, an irrigation service and/or a renewal of existing water service. Permits issued for new services or service renewals are valid for one year from the date of issuance at which time the permit expires. One (1) request for a sixty (60) day extension of a permit's expiration date is allowed.
This is used for all fire services. Please note for all applications for Private Fire Service MUST be first approved by the Fire Marshall Newport Fire Department A detailed site plan clearly showing the proposed work, existing utilities and all dimensions is required with all applications.
Please note: if the site plan is larger than by 11" x 17" in size we will require three copies of the plan. Application, site plan and application fee need to be submitted to the Department of Utilities, 70 Halsey St, Newport.

Please note: This is NOT an application to request water service but instead to locate the public water system in relation to your property in order to deem your potential of obtaining water service. This form does NOT represent approval of any required main extension or the associated individual water services.
