The mission of the Newport Fire Department is to preserve lives and property within the community by providing services directed at the prevention and control of fires, accidents, and other emergencies, while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, efficiency, and effectiveness.
The Newport Fire Department offers Firefighting, ALS Emergency Medical Services, and Fire Prevention Services to over 24,000 citizens. The Fire Department is comprised of 95 personnel divided into three branches: Administration, Fire Prevention and Fire Suppression/EMS personnel.
Administrative personnel include the Fire Chief, who oversees the entire department and the Administrative Officer, who manages daily administrative operations for the department.
The Fire Prevention Office is overseen by the Fire Marshal, and includes: the Captain of Fire Prevention, the Captain Fire Inspector, the Captain Superintendent of Fire Alarm, and the Captain of Fire Suppression Systems.
The Fire Suppression/EMS branch includes four shifts of 22 personnel each, dispersed among 3 stations. Each shift is comprised of: 1 Deputy Chief, 2 Captains, 3 Lieutenants,15 firefighters & 1 Firefighter Dispatcher.
Apparatus 1 Incident Command vehicle, 1 Engine, 1 Reserve Engine, 1 100' Ladder Truck, 1 ALS Rescue wagon, 1 21' Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat, 1 Rescue Jet-Ski, 1 Water Rescue Trailer, & 1 Reserve ALS Rescue.
