The Waste Management Transfer Station will be closed onThursday, November 26th for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Trash and recycling collections will be delayed one day for Thursday and Friday collections only. For the full 2020 Yard Waste and Holiday calendar, see below link. Public Invited to Virtual Inauguration

NEWPORT, R.I. (Monday, Nov. 23, 2020) – With the holiday season quickly approaching, the City of Newport is gearing up for a variety of COVID-safe festivities aimed at spreading cheer across the City.

Following up on the success of their Halloween Spooktacular, Newport Recreation will be hosting a Holly Jolly Drive-Thru at Easton’s Beach on Saturday, Dec. 12th along with a virtual Gingerbread House Competition that’s sure to set mouths watering.   

Newport Police Adding Patrols for Halloween Weekend

Stepped Up Patrols Aimed at Ensuring Safe, Healthy Halloween
NEWPORT, R.I. (Friday, October 30, 2020) – The Newport Police Department will be adding additional patrols this weekend in an effort to ensure that Newporters are able to enjoy a healthy and safe Halloween weekend.

Like other communities, Newport’s public safety team has been responding to a higher than usual volume of calls over the last several weeks, including several occurrences of vandalism and gun-related incidents which are currently under investigation.

Canvassing Authority Meeting

The Newport Canvassing Authority is charged with conducting all elections for the City of Newport.

Under the direction of the State Board of Elections, and in cooperation with the Secretary of State, the Canvassing Authority is involved in all phases of the electoral process, from voter registration to tallying the votes after the polls close on election day.

Probate Court

Probate Court meets two times per month at 10:30 a.m., in the Second Floor City Council Chambers at Newport City Hall. Click here for a full schedule.
