Online Payments Offline Temporarily

Effective July 1st, the City of Newport will be introducing a new software program that will help streamline operations for City staff. Please note that while customers will still be able to conduct normal business inside City Hall, residents are advised that certain functions, including online payments, are currently offline.

NEWPORT WELCOMES RESILIENCE & SUSTAINABILITY DIRECTOR

Newly created position to oversee three key departments

NEWPORT, R.I. (WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 2, 2024) – The City of Newport is pleased to announce the hiring of Teresa Crean as its first Director of Resilience and Sustainability.

Crean, an AICP-Certified Planner who has extensive experience in both municipal and state level leadership roles, will oversee three key City departments: Planning and Economic Development, Public Services, and
Utilities. 

Council Rescinds Sewer Use Fee

NEWPORT, R.I. -- City Councilors held a special Workshop on Utility Billing on Wednesday, Sept. 18th at which they signaled a desire to repeal a new Base Sewer Use charge that had gone into effect on July 1st.

After listening to resident concerns, City Councilors are expected to rescind the base sewer use charge at their meeting next Wednesday, Sept. 25th and revert bills back to the structure that customers had expected prior to the introduction of the base sewer use charge in July.

NEWPORT, R.I. (FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2024) – Newport voters interested in learning more about the City’s proposed $98.5 million bond proposal have a new resource. Earlier this week, the City launched a new online guide for residents to preview the ballot question and learn more about the projects that the City hopes to realize should voters approve the referendum on Nov. 5th.
