Newport Police Department Establishes Dedicated LGBTQ+ Liaison

Officer to Serve as a Contact for LGBTQ+ Community
  
NEWPORT, R.I. (WEDNESDAY, NOV. 30TH, 2022) – Building upon its longstanding tradition of Community Oriented Policing, the Newport Police Department is pleased to announce the designation of the City’s first dedicated LGBTQ+ Liaison Officer.

The position is intended to serve as a point of contact within the Department for members of the City’s LGBTQ+ community and was developed through an ongoing dialogue with the city’s LGBTQ+ advocates from Newport Pride Inc., whose mission is to build a more inclusive LGBTQ+ community in Newport County.

NEWPORT, R.I. (FRIDAY, Nov. 25, 2022) – We’re sorry to report that due to expected gale force winds, tonight’s Illuminated Boat Parade has been rescheduled to Saturday, Dec. 3rd at 6:15 p.m., weather permitting.

The decision to reschedule the popular holiday tradition was made out of an abundance of caution after the National Weather Service issued a Small Craft Advisory for Narragansett Bay beginning at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25th until 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26th.

Newport Fire, Police Set to Escort Santa Through Newport’s Neighborhoods Again this Year

Annual Santa’s Ride to Kick Off Tuesday, Dec. 6th
  
NEWPORT, R.I. (WEDNESDAY, NOV. 23, 2022) – With the holiday season officially upon us, the City of Newport is once again busy preparing for the return of Santa’s nightly rides.

Beginning Tuesday, Dec. 6th, Santa will be escorted by Newport’s Fire and Police Departments for his annual tour of Newport’s neighborhoods.

This year, he’s planning on riding with our first responders through the streets to see the City’s children beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday December 6th, Thursday December 8th, Tuesday December 13th and finishing up on Thursday December 15th.
